Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how ScribeItLocal ("ScribeItLocal," "we," "us," or "our"), a service operated by Janko Tech Ventures LLC, handles information when you use the ScribeItLocal website and transcription tool at scribeitlocal.com (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. The core principle: local processing

ScribeItLocal runs the OpenAI Whisper speech-recognition model directly in your web browser using Transformers.js and WebGPU. When you transcribe a file:

• Your audio or video file is read and processed locally on your computer.
• The file is never uploaded to our servers, because ScribeItLocal has no transcription server.
• The resulting transcript is generated on your device and either downloaded to your computer or saved to a folder you choose. We never receive it.

In short: we cannot see, store, or access the contents of the files you transcribe.

2. Information we do not collect

• The audio or video files you transcribe.
• The text of your transcripts.
• Account information — ScribeItLocal requires no sign-up, login, or account of any kind.
• Names, addresses, or payment details (the tool is free; if you choose to tip via Ko-fi, that transaction is handled entirely by Ko-fi under their own privacy policy).

3. Information we do collect

To understand how the Service is used and to keep it free, we collect limited, standard analytics and advertising data through trusted third parties:

Usage and device information (via Google Analytics)

• Pages viewed, time on page, and general interactions with the site.
• Browser type, device type, operating system, and screen size.
• Approximate geographic location derived from your IP address (we do not receive your precise location).
• Referring website or source.

This information is aggregated and used to improve the Service. We do not use it to personally identify you.

4. Cookies and local storage

ScribeItLocal and its third-party providers use cookies and similar browser technologies:

• Analytics cookies — set by Google Analytics to measure usage.
• Advertising cookies — set by Google AdSense and its partners to serve and measure ads (see Section 5).
• Browser cache (not a tracking cookie) — the Whisper AI model is downloaded once and cached in your browser's local storage so it doesn't need to re-download each visit. This cached model stays on your device and is not transmitted anywhere. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies will not affect the transcription tool's core functionality, which runs locally.

5. Advertising and Google AdSense

ScribeItLocal is supported by advertising so it can remain free. We use Google AdSense to display ads. Please note:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to ScribeItLocal and/or other sites on the Internet.
• You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
• You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices.

6. Third-party services

The Service relies on the following third parties, each governed by its own privacy policy:

• Google Analytics — usage analytics. See the Google Privacy Policy.
• Google AdSense — advertising. See the Google Advertising policy.
• Hugging Face — the Whisper AI model files are downloaded from Hugging Face's content delivery network the first time you run the tool. See the Hugging Face Privacy Policy.
• Ko-fi — if you choose to support us with a tip, payment is processed by Ko-fi. See the Ko-fi Privacy Policy.

7. Data retention

Because we never receive your media files or transcripts, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on that front. Analytics and advertising data are retained by Google in accordance with their respective retention policies and your account/opt-out settings.

8. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal data:

• EEA / UK (GDPR): You have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to processing. Since we do not collect identifying information directly, most requests relate to data held by our analytics and advertising providers.
• California (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell your personal information. You have the right to know what is collected and to opt out of targeted advertising via the links in Section 5.

9. Children's privacy

ScribeItLocal is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

10. International users

ScribeItLocal is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., be aware that the third-party analytics and advertising providers we use may process data in the United States and other countries.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be reflected here, and your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
